Finding the Right Colour of Sofa for your Living Room Doesn’t Have to Be Hard!

A sofa is quite possibly one of the top three expenses that you will pay out for in your home. Your sofa will be with you for many, many years and it can make a huge impact on the other colours that you decide to have in your home. If you are planning your interior design and you have no idea which colours you want to go with then you can start with the sofa and plan everything else around it. This is a great way for you get a rough idea of which colour is right for your room.

Light or Dark?

If you are moving into a new place, the first thing that you need to do is make sure that you can actually fit a new sofa into your home. If you know that you need a 3-seater, think about it, can you fit it through your window? When you have decided this, you can then move on to whether or not your sofa will be an accent colour or even a neutral colour. The colour of your floor will have a huge impact on this so if you have a dark floor then consider going for a lighter colour of sofa.

The problem is that a lighter coloured sofa will come with its fair share of challenges. One of the biggest challenges you will face is the stain and general wear and tear of the sofa. Before you choose a white sofa, think about how big the room is and also take into consideration any pets that you have. If your sofa is essentially going to become a dog bed then white may not be the best choice, so consider going for a pastel colour or even lighter primary colours such as red, blue or yellow.

Neutral Colours

Neutral colours are very easy to decorate around and they are great if you want to keep up with your style as it changes throughout the years. Consider a leather Chesterfield sofa in a neutral colour, such as cream, brown, beige or grey as this can create a lot of interest with your decoration. Neutral sofas can be very attractive and you can even decorate the sofa by using colourful cushions.

Chairs and Other Furniture

When you buy your sofa, don’t be tempted to buy a full set right away. It’s more than possible for you to decorate your room by using a lot of different chairs or colourful footstools. Not everything has to match in with each other in order for the general design to work and you don’t have to make a huge purchase all at once either.

Sales are a great way for you to save money and you would be surprised at how much you can actually get knocked off a sofa of your choosing when you spend a certain amount at the store. This gives you the chance to get any cushions that you need and it also gives you the chance to get other areas of the home fully furnished as well.
