When Peter Cuderman set out on his quest to find a luxury watch, he never expected to be so taken back by the whole experience. After being frustrated, he decided to do something about it. The young B-school graduate left his cushy desk job in J.P. Morgan’s Private Bank and opened the doors to his business venture. He created Washington Mount Vernon, an American company that produces top quality watches. The inspiration for the company was from a watch discovered in the late 1800’s from the Washington Watch Company. Using a contemporary approach and inspiration from the Washington Watch Company, the first line, The 1776, was produced with a classic and timeless touch.
An automatic watch; the timepiece comes with an ETA 2892 movement engraved beautifully with the company seal and the all seeing eye, bearing each owner’s serial number. The hour and hand minutes are small scale modeled hands of the Washington Memorial. While the watch presents a simplistic look, each hour and the WASHINGTON name are raised with a 1.5 mm height and .25 mm thick polished index.
The package wouldn’t be complete without a box. The full sized treasure chest replica is a special reminder of the olden days of watchmaking. One of the company’s short term goals are to bring production from Switzerland to the United States. Each watch also comes with a certificate of authenticity, sealed in a wax envelope.
Washington Mount Vernon launched their Kickstarter campaign on May 2 and will be up and running for 43 days. You can pre-order a Washington 1776 for $575, roughly $700 of their suggested retail price. Go check out their campaign and support! https://www.
